If you want to be sure that a pair of shoes will fit you, you can draw an outline of your feet on a piece of paper.

You must draw both your feet, since one foot may be slightly shorter than the other.

What you do:

Stand with your weight on both feet.

You get the best result if you have someone else draw around your feet with a pencil.

When drawing around your toes and heel, the pencil must be held vertically.

On the outside and inside of your foot, the pencil must be held at a slightly angle.

Cut out your templates.

Put them in the shoes and see if the templates crawl up the sides.

If they do, the shoes are too small in those places.

You can also take your templates with you when you buy shoes.

Tell the salesperson in the shoe store that you have diabetes.

Then most salespersons know that they need to pay extra attention to getting some shoes that fit you.

If you are still unsure whether the shoes fit, you can have them checked by a chiropodist.
